Zoom Theatre is very excited to announce that it is now accepting video audition submissions for its Mid-Winter / Early Spring Season of THE TEMPEST  by William Shakespeare, SENSITIVE GUYS by MJ Kaufman, and THE NICETIES by Eleanor Burgess.  Video auditions will be accepted until 11:59pm December 27 Pacific Time.  Please review all sections of this post closely for details, requirements and answers to common questions.

 Audition Instructions

  • Read the Actor Requirements carefully, making sure you have the necessary hardware and rehearsal space required.
  • Review the show descriptions and dates carefully, checking for any conflicts.
  • Record video(s) of you performing your audition monologue(s) -
    • If auditioning for THE TEMPEST - A one minute Shakespearian monologue NOT from THE TEMPEST.
    • If auditioning for SENSITIVE GUYS - A contemporary comic or tragicomic monologue, NOT from SENSITIVE GUYS, no longer than 1 minute.
    • If auditioning for THE NICETIES - A contemporary dramatic, or tragicomic monologue, NOT from THE NICETIES, no longer than 1 minute. You can use the same or different monologues if you are auditioning for both SENSITIVE GUYS and THE NICETIES, your choice.
  • Before 11:59pm on December 27 PT -
    • Gather all  of your audition materials in to one folder a cloud service like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud. These files will include - 
      • Your Resume
      • Your Headshot
      • Your Shakespeare monologue if auditioning for THE TEMPEST
      • Your contemporary comic monologue if auditioning for SENSITIVE GUYS
      • Your contemporary dramatic, or tragicomic monologue if auditioning for THE NICETIES. You can use the same or different monologues if you are auditioning for both SENSITIVE GUYS and THE NICETIES, your choice.
      • A screen shot or PDF of the results of a www.speedtest.net run on your computer from your rehearsal / performance space.
      • A simple groundplan sketch of your rehearsal / performance space showing measurements.
    • Make your audition folder shareable with anyone that has the link and save the link so you can enter/paste it when you submit your application. 

When you are ready to submit your audition, go to https://bit.ly/Zoom-Auditions and fill out and submit the audition application form.  The form will ask for the link to your shared audition folder at the end.

Actor Requirements for all shows

  • All actors must be at least 18 years of age.
  • These are non-union, non-paying engagements.  Audience donations will be shared with company members after the production closes.
  • All rehearsals and performances will be done on-line for cast, crew and audience.
  • Rehearsal days and times will be set at the convenience of the cast and production team of each production, but will be limited to times between 2pm and 10pm (week days) and 10am to 10pm (weekends) PT.
  • Cast member physical location / time zone is not restricted as long as cast members can make all rehearsal and performance times.

Each cast member must have / provide:

  • A computer (Mac or Windows OS) with multi-core processor (Intel i5 Gen 6 or better) and 4gb RAM (or better), webcam and microphone.
  • A reliable internet connection with at least 3mbs upload and 10mbs download. (print screen of SpeedTest results required)
  • A minimum 12'x10' space in which to rehearse and perform, and a simple groundplan sketch of your space showing measurements.
  • Headshot and resume.
  • Permission for Zoom Theatre techs to remotely access and operate your computer during rehearsal and performance.
  • Some level of self-costuming will be required (TBD, all shows are modern dress).
  • Actors must agree to box and ship Zoom provided equipment back to Zoom upon strike (Zoom will cover cost of shipping).

Zoom Theatre will provide:

  • Green screen
  • Ring lights
  • External mics
  • External webcams
  • Props
  • Specialty costume items
  • Shipping expense of hardware to and from actor location

  • Anticipated Cast size - 12 to 15
  • All parts are currently open and all parts are open to non-traditional casting.

THE TEMPEST Dates - All times are Pacific Time (PT)

  • Call Backs will be by invitation only on Tuesday, December 29 from 2pm to 10pm PT. You will not be required for the entire call back time.
  • Rehearsals - January 17 to February 24th, five days a week, four hours per day.
  • Tech weekend - February 20 and 21 from 10am to 10pm PT (10 of 12 with meal breaks).
  • Dress Rehearsals - February 22, 23, 24 from 6pm to 10pm PT.
  • Performances - February 25, 26, 27, 28 and March 4, 5, 6, 7. 
  • Performance Call Times :
  • February 25, 26, and March 4, 5 - 5pm PT
  • February 27 and March 6 - 3pm PT
  • February 28 and March 7 - 12pm PT 

SENSITIVE GUYS by MJ Kaufman

  • Be advised: This play is a comedy that discusses rape culture, as well as issues and incidents of sexual assault.  Any questions or concerns about how the director plans to approach the play with emotional safety should be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots.   • Performances - April 1, 2, 3, & 4
  • Performance Call Times :
